New initiative to boar through OK's hog of an issue

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The State Department of Agriculture is answering cries for help and providing a brand new service to Oklahomans that will hopefully help with a major problem in our state, feral swine.

They are a menace in all 77 Oklahoma counties.

Agricultural Department spokesperson, Blayne Arthur, said, "Feral hogs know no boundaries. They will eat almost anything. They will tear anything up. They are very aggressive. People should be very cautious if they run to them."

The Agriculture Department tells us wild hogs can double their population in just four months.

They are beginning to encroach on Oklahoma's non-rural areas.

So, the State Department of Agriculture is busy compiling a directory for those with wild swine interests.

More than 500 Oklahomans have applied.

Saving a Buck: Mortgage Rates

Saving a Buck: Mortgage Rates

Just when you thought mortgage rates had hit an all-time low, they've dropped again. Gary Atchley with Keller Williams Realty said he's never seen a better market for home buyers with the least amount of risk.

So whether you're buying or refinancing, he said the time to act is now.

"Be sure to take advantage of it," Atchley said. "We don't know how long it's going to last. It can't last forever."

Atchley is referring to the average 30-year Fixed Rate Mortgage dropping to a record-low 3.94 percent last week.

He calls it a wonderful opportunity for people to afford the home of their dreams.

"It gives them an opportunity to keep their payments down to a point where they'll have more money in their pocket at the end of the month," he said.

The economy has had a major impact on the OKC metro housing market.
