Pulitzer Prize winner to attend cancer center dedication | Events
A Pulitzer Prize-winning author will speak at the dedication ceremony for the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center.
That ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Physician Siddhartha Mukherjee, author of "The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, will speak at the ceremony.
Mukherjee is an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University and a staff cancer physician at Columbia University Medical Centre. His laboratory focuses on discovering new cancer drugs using innovative biological methods.
His book recounts centuries of discoveries, victories and deaths related to cancer research.
The Oklahoma Cancer Center will give Oklahomans access to clinical trials without having to travel out of state to other major academic cancer centers. It is the only cancer center in the state with the infrastructure to support multiple cancer clinical trials.
Currently, more than 2,700 patients are enrolled in more than 250 different clinical trials at the Oklahoma Cancer Center.
The new Cancer Center is the largest single public-private partnership initiative in state history.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, located at 800 N.E. 10th St. in Oklahoma City.
